Linda Jean Fisher

Linda Jean Fisher
Biography

When I was called to be a visual artist I didn’t pursue this occupation for reasons based on financial gain.  I make every effort to achieve recognition for the work and earn income from the work; and I do so with zeal.  But I do not redirect the true nature of the creative process to yield art that I know people will purchase or to please a prospect.  I see the rewards for my vocation as a visual artist in more spiritual terms and will continue to fulfill my role in society with integrity.
My work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries and museums including the 1929 Gallery, USMA West Point, N.Y.; SPACES, Cleveland, O.; Center Galleries, Center for Creative Studies, Detroit, Mich.; The Alternative Museum, New York, N.Y.; and The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, N.Y.  In addition, my pieces are in private and corporate collections, including Pfizer’s permanent collection at the Doral Arrowwood Education Center in Rye Brook, N.Y.
Since 1995, I have reached a wide audience giving slide talks that include both a chronological survey of my work and detailed descriptions of my various processes.  I have lectured at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill.; Westchester Community College, Valhalla, N.Y.; Women’s Partnership for Education in Prison, Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Bedford Hills, N.Y.; and Eastchester High School, Eastchester, N.Y.
In 2005, my exhibition at Monmouth College in Illinois named “Linda Jean Fisher:  Color From the Inside Out,” was supported in part with funds from the Special Opportunity Stipends Program through New York Foundation for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts.  In 1994, I was one of 35 artists chosen to participate in The Bronx Museum of the Art’s fourteenth Artist in the Marketplace program.  In 1988, I received a B.F.A. from The School of Visual Arts in New York, N.Y. after earning an A.A.S. in 1985 from Westchester Community College, Valhalla, N.Y.  From 1988 through 1990, I studied figure sculpture with Martine Vaugel at The New York Academy of Art, New York, N.Y.  I expanded my studies with Ms. Vaugel at the Ecole Albert Defois, Les Cerqueux Sous Passavant, France in 1989.  I live in the established artist district in Peekskill, N.Y., and serve on the Artist Certification Committee.
